Netgear MR814 Wireless Security Recommendations
Once you have completed the basic setup on your Netgear MR814 it’s time to secure it from hackers. Why does the wireless network require more security setup than the basic wired router? Because the nature of wireless means that users can connect to your network from anywhere in the vicinity of your Access Point, including the street out in front or around the corner from your house. Without turning on extra security people you don’t know can and will use your wireless network to gain anonymous access to the Internet and possibly break into the computers you have in your house. Anything these users do on the Internet through your house can be traced back to you, not them.
Since controlling who has access try to talk to your wireless Access Point is all but impossible you can take steps to make sure that anyone who attempts to communicate with your network will not be able to have any sort of meaningful communications with it. Click ‘Next’ below and we’ll show you how to make your wireless network a much harder target for hackers to attack.
**NOTE** Please make sure to read the instructions for each step thoroughly before implementing any of them as you are likely to lose connection to the router several times during this process as changes are applied.
To begin with, log into your wireless router by opening your web browser and going to http://192.168.0.1. The web page will prompt you for a username and password. To begin with, this is set to the default of:
Username: admin
Password: password
Once you type those in and click ‘Ok’ you should see the following page:......
